ACE-031 or ACVR2B or Activin Receptor Type II B, also known as ActR-IIB and MGC116908, is an activin type 2 receptor. Activins are dimeric growth and differentiation factors which belong to the transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) superfamily of structurally related signaling proteins.
ACE-031 is an investigational protein which increases myocyte activity by inhibiting molecules that bind to and signal through a cell surface receptor called Activin Receptor Type IIB (ActRIIB). ACE-031 is a completely human, recombinant fusion protein that is produced by joining a portion of the human ActRIIB receptor to a portion of a human antibody. This creates a freely circulating, decoy version of ActRIIB which removes proteins, such as GDF-8 (myostatin) and other related molecules that limit the myocyte activity.
The tag in which this peptide is attached to is known to cause test subjects some side effects. Although this may be of a little discomfort for the test subject it is this tag in which the peptide uses to travel round the body. The tag is nessaccary for transportation and effectiveness of the peptide.
